Scholarship Program

Over $1 Million in scholarships awarded to date!

The Foodland Scholarship Program is underwritten by the independent owners of Foodland Supermarkets and SUPERVALU, Inc. It is through this scholarship program that Foodland recognizes high school students’ commitment to their education and communities. The Foodland Scholarship Program enables deserving high school seniors throughout the area to receive a $1,000 scholarship to help defray the cost of their post-secondary education.

The program is managed by Foodland's Scholarship Committee.

Program Eligibility

To be eligible for the Foodland Scholarship Program, a student must:

  • Be a senior in high school.
  • Be planning to enroll (no later than the Fall semester following announcement of awards) in a full-time course of study at an accredited 2- or 4-year college, university, or vocational/technical school in the United States.
  • Have maintained a least a cumulative 3.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).
  • Be a full-time resident of the Foodland Marketing area, which includes certain retailers in West Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio.

Rules & Regulations

Students must complete the application and submit it by the deadline of March 1st each year. Applications are evaluated on the information provided; therefore, it is important to answer each question as completely as possible.

All information submitted is confidential and will be reviewed by Foodland's Scholarship Committee. These scholarships are awarded without regard to race, color age, religion, creed, sex, disability or national origin.

Awards are for undergraduate study and are not renewable. The monies may be used only for tuition, fees, books or supplies. The scholarship must be used during the academic year for which it is awarded. Associates of Foodland and/or dependents of Foodland store owners are ineligible to participate in the program. Foodland's Scholarship Committee will notify recipients no later than May 15th of each year by mail, and all recipients' names will be posted in participating Foodland stores. Recipients must verify their enrollment at a post-secondary institution.

Awards will be processed by SUPERVALU, Inc. on behalf of Foodland Supermarkets. Checks will be mailed directly to each recipient's home address in mid-August. Checks are made payable to the student and the school, and must be endorsed by both. Students must inform Foodland's Scholarship Committee of any changes in address, school enrollment or other pertinent information.

Scholarship recipients have no obligation to Foodland Supermarkets or their supplier, SUPERVALU Eastern Region. This program is administered in accordance with IRS regulations.
